Your Mind on Meditation

Jaguar medicine

Sacred Jaguar teach me…
To wear my power lightly,
To walk with impeccability,
To approach life with compassion,
And to live up to the integrity of
My human potential.

Raven medicine

Raven… black as pitch, mystical as the moon,
Speak to me of magic, I will fly with you soon.

Throughout time, Raven has carried the medicine of magic. This has been true in many cultures across the planet. It is sacred, in the medicine ways, to honor Raven as the bringer of magic.

Raven is a powerful medicine that can give you the courage to enter the darkness of the void, which is the home of all that is not yet form. The void is called the Great Mystery. Great Mystery existed before all other things came into being. Great Spirit lives inside the void and emerged from the Great Mystery. Raven is the messenger of the void.

Raven’s color is the color of the void – the black hole in space that holds all the energy of the creative source. In Native teachings the color black means many things, but it does not mean evil. Black can mean the seeking of answers, the void, or the road of the spiritual or nonphysical. The blue-black of Raven contains an iridescence that speaks of the magic of darkness, and a changeability of form and shape that brings an awakening in the process.

Raven guides the magic of healing and the change in consciousness that will bring about a new reality and dispel “dis-ease” or illness. Raven brings in the state of wellness from the Void of Great Mystery and the field of plenty.

The Art of Self-Practice (Mysore Ashtanga)

November 7, 2015

This morning I practiced.
It was very simple.
I unrolled a mat, said a few words softly to myself, and began.

Nobody asked me to “open” or “expand” anything.
I was not instructed to take anything from one level to another.

No one asked me to “melt” any part of my body.
It was never suggested that I should “embody” some concept or another.
I didn’t hear anyone “speak their truth”.
No one assured me that I could “manifest” anything I wanted.

It was never suggested that I would be happier if I bought some new product.
I wasn’t told to pursue any bliss.
Spirit was neither mentioned nor invoked.
No one used the word “energy”. Nobody implied that I could be stronger, more beautiful or more free than I currently am.
In fact, no one spoke at all.

I spent two hours moving through a familiar sequence of poses. I did this practice in a warm, quiet room listening to my breath and the breath of those practicing nearby.
I was assisted by a gentle and patient human being who, for the most part, left me alone to do my work. At the end of my practice, I lay on the floor completely still for a long time.

When I was done, I quietly left.
People smiled at me on my way out. I smiled at them.

I will practice again tomorrow.
